Non-Active Client or Patient Emergencies:

As an organization we are committed to providing the best services to our clients and honoring our legal obligation to provide emergency services for them. Unfortunately, more and more we are receiving calls from owners and trainers who are unable to reach their primary veterinarian for emergency services. It is important to us that these non-active client emergencies do not impact the quality of care our ‘active’ clients and patients receive.

Active clients are given priority when scheduling and are guaranteed emergency services. Active clients are those owners or trainers who have active patients with us. To be considered an active patient a horse will have had a wellness exam performed in the last 12 months.

Wellness exams help us to establish the baseline for a horse, identify any potential problems sooner, and legally establish a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship. If a horse is on the healthcare plan, this exam is included and the horse is considered an active patient. If the horse is not on the healthcare plan, a wellness exam can be performed during a routine veterinary visit (such as Coggins or vaccines).  According to Florida Veterinary law, if a horse has not had a wellness exam within twelve months, we are not able to dispense medications or give advice until one is completed.

Pricing for non-active clients/patients:

Inactive Clients/patients can be turned away for emergency services based on doctor availability. If the veterinarian is able to see the horse, an inactive client/patient emergency fee of $200 will be assessed out of hours and a fee of $150 during hours.
